Analyzing feedback in three languages without losing nuance

Translating everything into English first is the fastest way to flatten what people meant.

Regional programs often collect feedback in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The usual shortcut is to translate everything into one language and analyze the translation. Something is lost every time.

Analyze in the original language

We group answers into themes in the language they were written in, and only then align the themes across languages. "Conectividad" in a rural municipality and "internet" in a capital city may belong to the same theme, or to two different problems.

Keep the voices

Each finding in our reports includes quotes in the original language with a translation beside them. Decision makers read what people actually said, not a paraphrase of a paraphrase.

Check with native speakers

Before the report goes out, a reviewer who speaks each language reads the themes and quotes. It takes a few hours and catches the misunderstandings that matter most.
